AZUSA, Calif. — The University of La Verne track and field teams faced top upper-division competition at Bryan Clay Invitational, hosted by Azusa Pacific, at Cougar Stadium on Friday.
Throwers showed well on the men's side. Chris Gura was the first NCAA Division III finisher in the discus, tying for 37th overall with a toss of 42.82 meters (140 feet, 6 inches), and finished 28th in the shot put with a throw of 13.98 meters (45-10.50). Andrew Carrasco was the first Division III finisher in the hammer with a toss of 46.70 meters (153-02).
Robert Oshodin was the Leopards' top finisher in the 100 meters at 11.22 seconds and finished 42nd overall.
Kimmy Kabluyen posted a personal best time in the 400 meters and Taylor Schulze beat her personal mark in the pole vault to highlight the women's competition for La Verne. Kabluyen won her heat of the 400 with a time of 58.46 seconds and was 40th overall. Schulze cleared a height of 3.46 meters in the pole vault to finish tied for 28th.
Tiahna Gillon clocked a time of 12.36 in the 100 meters to finish 28th overall. Taelor Roby finished 80th in the event with a time of 12.95 seconds.
Christiana Coughlin recorded a javelin throw of 34.02 meters (111-07) to place 28th.
The Leopards are back in action at UC San Diego Invitational on April 25.
