Men's Track and Field finishes fourth at SCIAC Championships

LOS ANGELES — The University of La Verne men's track and field team turned in multiple podium performances on the final day of the 2016 SCIAC Championships at Occidental's Bill Henry Track and finished fourth.

The 4x100m relay team of Nick Gonsalves, Joshua Francis, Robert Oshodin and Austin Warrington won the event in a blistering 40.85 seconds to highlight the day for La Verne. The time is good for second in the nation and the quartet should qualify for the national championships.

The Leopards took second in the 4x400m as Oshodin, Jesus Payan, Jeffrey Ouk and Francis combined for a season-best time of 3 minutes, 18.96 seconds.

Francis medaled in two other individual events. The sophomore came in second in the 400 meters with a personal record time of 48.11 seconds and took third in the 200m at 21.54.

Oshodin and Warrington both scored in the 100m, as they came in sixth (11.13) and eighth (11.16), respectively.

Ouk was fifth in the 400m at 50.21 and Nathan Bradley finished the 400m hurdles in 59.93 for sixth place.

The Leopards turned in good performances in the field as well.

Jacob Lopez, who went into the meet as a title favorite in the triple jump, settled for second in the event. Lopez's second leap of 14.07m held until Cam Van of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps unleashed a jump of 14.53m (47-08.00) on his final attempt. Lopez followed with a leap of 14.31m (46-11.50) but it wasn't enough.

Chris Gura recorded a personal record toss of 14.76m (48-05.25) in the shot put to finish second and TJ Randall finished fourth in the event with a throw of 13.81m (45-03.75). Andrew Carrasco added more points for La Verne in the event with a toss of 13.17m (43-02.50).

Michael Burciaga-Ellis beat his record in the javelin with a throw of 51.46m (168-10) but just missed out on the podium and finished fourth.

Jacob Pavlovics finished third in the high jump with a clearance of 1.92m (6-03.50).

The Leopards finished fourth as a team.
