Carrasco posts seasonal record at Redlands Last Chance Qualifier

REDLANDS, Calif. — Andrew Carrasco posted a seasonal record in the hammer throw at the Redlands Final Qualifier on Thursday.

Carrasco, the two-time defending SCIAC champion in the hammer, recorded a toss of 55.57 meters (182 feet, 4 inches) to secure his spot in the NCAA Division III National Championship.

Jacob Lopez leaped 14.10m (46-03.25) in the triple jump and while he couldn't beat his seasonal and personal best mark of 14.43m (47-04.25), that jump at SCIAC Multi-Dual 3 should see him qualify for the national championship.

Kyle Ambat finished just behind Lopez in the triple jump with a personal record of 13.96m (45-09.75).

Chris Gura also competed in the hammer throw and recorded a throw of 50.19m (164-08).

The Leopards should have six men qualify for the NCAA National Championship, with the official announcement coming tomorrow morning. The 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Wartburg, will be take place in Waverly, Iowa, on May 26-29.
