4x100m Relay qualifies for championship final

WAVERLY, Iowa — The 4x100m relay team of Nick Gonsalves, Joshua Francis, Robert Oshodin and Austin Warrington qualified for championship final with a season-best time of 40.80 seconds in the prelims on the first day of the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The final will take place on Saturday at 1:05 p.m. CDT and will be streamed live on NCAA.com. The La Verne quartet is seeded third behind Wesley (40.54) and Monmouth (Ill.) (40.79).

The Leopards are looking to win its second 4x100m in three years. La Verne won the event at the 2014 national championships and return two of the runners (Gonsalves, Oshodin) from that team.

Francis competed in the 200 meters for his first individual championship race of his career and finished 18th in the prelim with a time of 22.22.

Andrew Carrasco (hammer) and Jacob Lopez (triple jump) will also be in action on Saturday for both prelims and finals, starting at 12:30 p.m. CDT.
