Gura claims three events at Westmont meet

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Chris Gura recorded three wins in the throwing events to highlight the La Verne men's track and team's first full meet at On Your Marks meet, hosted by Westmont, on Saturday.

Gura claimed the shot put, the discus throw and the hammer throw. The senior registered a toss of 14.04 meters (46 feet, 0.75 inches) to win the shot put. He registered the winning throw of 40.23m (132-00) on his first attempt to win the discus and he comfortbaly won the hammer with a throw of 48.26m (158-04).

TJ Randall wasn't far behind Gura in the throwing events. The junior finished third in the shot put (13.04m/42-09.50), third in the discus (38.86m/127-06) and second in the hammer (38.90m/127-07).

Another highlight came at the high jump, where Jacob Pavlovics registered a career-best leap of 2.00m (6-06.75) to finish third. His previous best mark was 1.93m (6-04).

Austin Warrington, Joshua Francis and Anthony Carter went 3-4-5 in the 100 meters. Warrington crossed the finish line at 11.20 seconds and Francis was virtually right behind at 11.21. Carter crossed at 11.58.

Jeffery Ouk took fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.30.

Patrick Cornwell, Ouk, Francis and Jesus Payan combined to go 3:25.32 in the 4x400m relay and finished second.

Andres Pulgarin finished second in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.80m (12-05.50) and Kyle Ambat took second in the triple jump with a leap of 13.18m (43-03.00)

The Leopards are back in action this Friday and Saturday at Moutain T's Indoor Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona.
