Men's Track & Field competes at Oxy Spring Break Classic

LOS ANGELES — Chris Gura claimed the discus throw and the shot put and Andrew Carrasco won the hammer throw to highlight the annual Occidental Distance Carnival Spring Break Classic for the La Verne men's track and field team on Friday.

Gura held off a strong field comprised mostly of NCAA Division II and junior college teams. He won the shot put with a toss of 14.47 meters (47 feet, 5.75 inches) and the discus throw with a hurl of 45.78m (150-02). Gura currently owns the fourth best shot put mark (14.67m/48-01.75) and the fourth best discus throw (45.78m/150-02) in NCAA Division III.

Carrasco blew away the field in the hammer throw, recording a season-best heave of 54.52m (178-10). The mark is the best in Division III by more than 20 feet.

Austin Warrington finished third overall in the 100m, crossing the finish line at 11.04 seconds in just his second meet of the season.

Freshman Terrence Robinson finished 16th overall in the 100m with a personal best time of 11.34 and added a 15th place finish in the 400m with another personal record time of 50.73.

Kyle Ambat finished fourth overall in the triple jump with a leap of 13.70m (44-11.50).

The Leopards are back in action on March 25 at Point Loma Invitational in San Diego.
