SAN DIEGO — The University of La Verne men's track and field team had a strong showing at the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational on Saturday.
The Leopards went 1-2-3 in the hammer throw. Andrew Carrasco won the event and improved on his NCAA Division III-leading mark with a toss of 56.72 meters (186 feet, 1 inch). Chris Gura took second with a throw of 48.47m (159-00) and TJ Randall was right behind at 45.11m (148-00).
Another highlight came in the long jump, where Kyle Ambat shattered his previous personal record. Ambat was the top Division III finisher in the event with a leap of 6.62m (21-08.75) and finished third overall. His previous personal record was 6.37m (20-10.75).
Joshua Francis finished sixth in the 200 meters with a time of 22.14. Terrence Robinson and Austin Warrington finished 12th (22.56) and 13th (22.58), in the event.
Josh Bell broke his personal record in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.46.
The 4x400m relay team of Robinson, Jesus Payan, Parick Cornwell and Francis came in second with a time of 3:19.46, which is good for seventh-best in the nation.
The Leopards are back in action next week at the second SCIAC Multi-Dual, hosted by Redlands.
