Men's Track and Field sweeps SCIAC Multi-Dual 3

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The La Verne men's track and field team recorded a clean sweep of Pomona-Pitzer, Chapman, Whittier and Caltech in the final SCIAC Multi-Dual meet of the season, hosted by Whittier at Pomona-Pitzer's Strehle Track, on Satuday.

Joshua Francis led the way with three wins. The junior won the 100 meters with a time of 11.10 seconds and was the only runner to break 22 seconds in the 200m (21.87). He also anchored the winning 4x100m relay team that crossed the finish line in 42.58.

La Verne swept the jumps. Jacob Pavlovics claimed the high jump with a leap of 1.85m (6 feet, 0.75 inches). Pomona-Pitzer's Cal Neikirk also cleared 1.85m, but Pavlovics won by virtue of recording the mark on his first try.

Kyle Ambat won the long jump with a leap of 6.70m (21-11.75) and the triple jump with a jump of 13.91m (45-07.75).

The Leopards were dominant in the throws once again. La Verne went 1-2-3-4 in the hammer throw led by Andrew Carrasco, who recorded a heave of 56.08m (184-00). Chris Gura finished second (49.56m/162-07), TJ Randall was third (49.04m/160-11) and Andrew Bell placed fourth (43.14m/141-06).

Randall claimed the shot put with a toss of 15.18m (49-09.75) while Gura finished second with a throw of 14.71m (48-03.25). Gura took the discus throw with a hurl of 45.50m (149-03).

The Leopards will get two weeks off before the SCIAC Championships, hosted by Chapman at Strehle Track, on April 28-29.
