La Verne Track and Field earns 12 All-Region honors

NEW ORLEANS — The University of La Verne track and field teams earned 12 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-West Region awards on Monday.

Catalina Lee Kim earned three nods with her efforts in the long jump, the triple jump and the 100-meter hurdles.

Melissa Cerrillos garnered recognition for her performance in the steeplechase.

On the men's side, Chris Gura took home awards in the shot put, the hammer throw and the discus throw. Andrew Carrasco was recognized in the hammer throw and T.J. Randall earned an award in the shot put.

Joshua Francis, who collected three awards last year, was recognized for his performance in the 200 meters and the 400 meters.

To be named All-Region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

 Carrasco, Cerrillos and Lee Kim will participate in the NCAA National Championships on May 25-27 in Geneva, Ohio.
