Carrasco finishes fifth in hammer, earns back-to-back All-America status

GENEVA, Ohio — Andrew Carrasco of the La Verne men's track and field team concluded his illustrious collegiate career with an All-American performance, finishing fifth in the hammer throw on the final day of the 2017 NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, hosted by Mount Union and the Cleveland Sports Commission.

Carrasco, a three-time SCIAC champion and a 2016 All-American in the hammer throw, recorded a best throw of 57.24 meters (187-09) on his fifth attempt.

Top nine athletes after three throws advanced to the final and Carrasco recorded a toss of 55.02 meters on his third try to grab the ninth and final spot in the final. The senior hurled 56.12 meters on the fourth attempt before recording his final mark. He fouled on his final toss.

Carrasco leaves La Verne with two All-American awards, two All-West Region honors and three SCIAC individual championships.
