Track and Field ready for SCIAC Championships

LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field teams are set to begin the 2018 SCIAC Track and Field Championships hosted at the University of Redlands Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28.

Scoring Format: The meet will be scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for all events. Eight athletes will advance to the finals in all track events except the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. Nine athletes will advance to the finals in all field events. Multi-dual victories count 25 percent and conference championship place counts 75 percent toward the SCIAC Champion title. 

Leopards' Preview

Three Leopards will be looking to defend their SCIAC titles at his weekend's meet. In the field events, T.J. Randall looks for back-to-back first-place finishes in the shot put. The defending SCIAC Champion is currently ranked first in the event with a mark of 49-00.75. He also ranks first in the hammer throw (156-10) and second in the discus (139-05). Michael Brown owns the top mark in the discus at 140-09. Also ranked in the top-three in three different events is sprinter Joshua Francis. The senior ranks second in both the 100m (10.81) and the 200m (21.61) and ranks third in the 400m (49.12).

Junior Kyle Ambat owns the best mark in the conference in the long jump (22-09.25) and ranks third in the triple jump (46-00.75). Freshman Anthony Hamilton is peaking at the right time. The track and field newcomer set a personal record of 6-07.00 in the high jump in his last meet, tying him for the best mark in the conference.

On the women's side, Melissa Cerrillos will look for her third-straight title in the 3000m steeplechase. The junior currently ranks second in the event with a time of 11:11.89. Catalina Lee Kim can make an impact in three events. The senior ranks first in the 100m hurdles (14.45) and second in the long jump (18-05.00). She looks to defend her title in the triple jump where she currently ranks second at 37-07.25.

Ebony Turner ranks second in the high jump (5-05.00) and Cambria Serrano ranks third in the javelin (116-05).

Ticket Information: A daily $10 admission fee will be charged at the main entrance to the stadium/track. Non-UR students with ID (12-18 years old), senior citizens (55 and over), and military with ID will be charged $5 each day. Children under 12 will be admitted free. Any student/faculty/staff with a valid ID from any SCIAC institution will be admitted free. Cash or credit cards are accepted as payment.

 *** A limited number of SCIAC Championship short-sleeved t-shirts will be available for purchase for $15.00 each. 

Parking: Free parking is available in the dirt lot to the west of the stadium as well as the Chapel parking lot across the street to the south of the stadium. No dogs or other pets are permitted on the premises. No smoking and no alcohol are allowed in or around the venue at any time during the tournament.
