Randall wins hammer on day one of SCIAC Championships

REDLANDS, Calif. — T.J. Randall led the University of La Verne men's track and field team with a win in the hammer throw on day one of the SCIAC Championships.

Randall set a personal record on his way to the SCIAC title. He finished with a distance of 163-10, the fourth-best mark in La Verne history. 

The senior added another personal record in the discus on his way to taking second in the event. Randall got on the Leopards' top-10 list with a throw of 144-06.

Fellow senior Michael Brown also added an All-SCIAC performance in the discus, taking third with a personal record of 143-05.

In the jumps, Kyle Ambat earned All-SCIAC honors with a leap of 22-09.75 to finish third in the event.

All track events with the exception of the steeplechase and the 10,000m were preliminaries for finals on Saturday.

Matthew Salas will head into the finals as the top seed in the 800m after finishing with the best time in the prelims at 1:55.62

Joshua Francis qualified for the finals in the 400m dash with the third fastest time in the prelims, clocking in at 49.87.

The Leopards continue SCIAC action Saturday with field events beginning at 4 p.m. and track events starting at 5:30 p.m.
