Randall, Hamilton, Ambat lead MTF on Day 2 of SCIACs

REDLANDS, Calif. — T.J. Randall added another first-place finish and the University of La Verne men's track and field team added three more All-SCIAC performances on the final day of the 2018 SCIAC Track and Field Championships.

Randall, who led the Leopards on day one of the meet with a win in the hammer thrown and a second-place finish in the discus, made his way onto the podium for the third time. The junior won the shot put with a throw of 48-09.50 to win the event for the second year in a row.

Matthew Pedroza finished with a season-best throw in the shot put, reaching a distance of 42-00 to finish fifth.

Freshman Anthony Hamilton led the way for the Leopards in the jumps. In a close competition in the high jump with Occidental's Austin DeWitz, the pair both cleared 2.02m (6-07.50), and scratched at 2.07m. Since DeWitz cleared 6-07.50 in fewer attempts than Hamilton, DeWtiz came away with the title with Hamilton taking second. Hamilton set a personal record in the event and moved up to fourth in the Leopards' record book.

Kyle Ambat earned his second All-SCIAC honors on day two. The senior took third in the triple jump with a leap of 46-07.50. The junior took third in the long jump on day one.

On the track, Jeffrey Ouk took seventh in the 400m (51.48) and Matthew Salas finished ninth in the 800m (2:01.17).

The Leopards finished the meet in fifth place. Pomona-Pitzer claimed the team title.
