Salas, Ambat post solid marks in Boston

BOSTON — Kyle Ambat and Matthew Salas posted impressive marks as the University of La Verne track and field teams competed at the Boston University Valentine Invitational.

"This was a big weekend for ULV Track & Field. To travel across the country and take part in a big meet like this shows that we are committed to taking the program to a national level," said track and field head coach Kevin Reid. "And to go to New England and take part with a lot of other divisional schools is exciting. The Leopards are beginning to figure out this concept of high performance and as we continue down this path, the future is exciting."

Ambat finished with a distance of 14.08m in the triple jump, putting him 19th nationally. Salas, a sophomore ran a personal best in the 800m, clocking in at 1:54. 

On the women's side, women's distance medley relay team of Rachael Dela Cruz, Jade Griffin, Elizabeth Prevedello, and Melissa Cerrillos posted a La Verne indoor school record in the event. The Leopards finished a time of 12:15.02, placing the 15th in the NCAA DIII rankings.

Individually, Cerillos had another standout performance in the 800m run crossing the finish line with a time of 2:15.94, the 19th best time in DIII. 

Prevedello finished with a time of 10.49 in the 60m hurdles and added a leap of 5.21m in the long jump. Griffin posted a time of 26.07 in the 200m and Ebony Turner posted a height of 1.55m in the high jump.

Next Meet

The Leopards will next send a select group of athletes to the Northern Arizona University Friday Nigh Last Chance Qualifier on Friday while the rest of the squad competes in a dual against Biola on Saturday.
