Men's Track and Field post top marks at SCIAC No. 2

LA VERNE, CA — Kyle Ambat won the triple jump, Matthew Pedroza took first in the hammer throw as the University of La Verne men's track and field team competed in their only home meet of the season at SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 2. 

The Leopards defeated Chapman, narrowly lost to Pomona-Pitzer, and fell to Occidental.

Top Performances

Ambat led the way in the jumps for the Leopards. The senior posted a mark of 13.81m (45-3.75) in what proved to be the winning distance in his first attempt of the triple jump. The mark places Ambat 17th in the nation. He also took third in the long jump at 6.85m (22-5.75).

Pedroza took first in the hammer throw 44.29m (145-4), hitting the distance in his second throw of the day. He also took third in the shot put (13.72m, 45-0.25) and third in the discus (39.59m, 129-11).

In the 800m, Matthew Salas finished second, finishing with a time of 1:54.10, the No. 7 time in NCAA Division III.  

Patrick Cornwell took third in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line at 55.77 the 26th best time in the nation. Jeffrey Ouk took second in the 400m dash, clocking in at 50.21.

The 4x400m relay team of Cornwell, Ouk, Terrence Robinson, and Salas posted a fast time taking third at 3:22.92 the 21st best time nationally.
