LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne track and field teams will open the 2019 SCIAC Track and Field Championships this Saturday at Claremont McKenna College.

Scoring Format
The meet will be scored 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 for all events. Eight athletes will advance to the finals in all track events except the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays. Nine athletes will advance to the finals in all field events. Multi-dual victories count 25 percent and conference championship place counts 75 percent toward the SCIAC Champion title.

Parking
CMS has strict parking rules and regulations on its campus. If you do not park in the designated area, you may be issued a citation. Citations are the responsibility of the visiting institution or individual. CMS CANNOT VOID CITATIONS ONCE THEY ARE ISSUED. Spectator parking is available throughout the neighborhood south of Roberts Pavilion though spaces are limited. Additional parking is available throughout The Claremont Colleges.
SCIAC Championships T-Shirts
A limited number of SCIAC Championship short-sleeved t-shirts will be available for purchase for $15.00 each. The merchandise table will be located on the west side of the track near Roberts Pavilion.
Concessions
There will be CASH ONLY concessions available on the west side of the track near Roberts Pavilion and Axelrood Pool.
Leopard Women's Track and Field Preview
Sprints
Jade Griffin enters the SCIAC Championships as one of the favorites in the 100m, 200m, and 400m dashes. The junior ranks second in each event, clocking in at 12:27 in the 100m, 25.08 in the 200m, and 57.53 in the 400m.
Elizabeth Prevedello is currently seeded fifth in the 100m hurdles at 15.00.
Middle Distance
Melissa Cerrillos can be a threat in a pair of middle distance events. The senior ranks second in the 800m (2:16.70) and third in the 1500m (4:46.57). Cerrillos took third in the 800m last season. Rachael Dela Cruz ranks fifth in the 1500m with a time of 4:48.22.
Distance
Dela Cruz enters the 3000m steeplechase as the fourth ranked runner at 11:23.97. The senior is less than two seconds behind the two competitors in front of her. Cerrillos ranks first in the event but will not run it this weekend.
Relays
The Leopards' 4x400m relay team enters the meet ranked second with a time of 4:02.27.
Jumps
The high jump will be one of the most competitive events of the meet with six women tied with a mark of 5-03.00. Senior Ebony Turner and junior Prevedello, both tied for first, will represent the Leopards in the event.
Micaela Krumweide will be in contention in the triple jump. The senior currently ranks third in the event with a leap of 37-07.25.

Relays
The Leopards 4x400m relay team enters the weekend with the third fastest time in the conference at 3:21.31 behind Whittier (3:20.76) and Redlands (3:20.86).
Middle Distance
Matthew Salas will make a push in the 800m run. The sophomore is seeded third with a time of 1:52.41.
Jumps
Kyle Ambat will look to improve on his third place finish in the triple jump and long jump a year ago. The senior currently ranks first in the triple jump with a mark of 45-03.75 and second in the long jump at 22-11.00.
Throws
Matthew Pedroza is seeded in the top-five in three events. The junior sits fourth in the shot put (45-00.25), fifth in the discus (134-06), and fifth in the hammer throw (146-03).
