Men's Track and Field opens SCIAC Championships

CLAREMONT, CA — The University of La Verne men's track and field team opened the 2019 SCIAC Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

Kyle Ambat just missed the podium in the long jump. The senior finished fourth in the event with a leap of 22-03.00 (6.78m) just half an inch behind third place.

Matthew Pedroza finished fourth in the hammer throw with a personal record distance of 152-00 (46.34m)

All track events on Saturday were preliminaries with the exception of the 3000m steeplechase and 10,000m run.

Matthew Salas will head into the 800m run seeded second. Nathan Bradley will compete in the finals of the 110m hurdles on Sunday.

Jeffrey Ouk earned a spot in the finals of the 400m dash after taking sixth in the preliminaries. Patrick Cornwell will head into the 400m hurdles seeded fourth.

The Leopards continue the SCIAC Championships tomorrow with field events beginning at 2 p.m. and track events beginning at 3:30 p.m.
