LOS ANGELES- The University of La Verne men's water polo team scored a 19-17 league victory over Occidental College Saturday.

After a 1-1 tie early in the first quarter, the Leopards (6-17, 2-3 SCIAC) held a small lead for the rest of the match. The scoreboard read 10-9 at halftime and 15-12 after three quarters, but the Tigers (1-20, 0-5 SCIAC) were unable to eliminate the deficit before the game clock wound down to zero.

The La Verne offense was powered by a six-goal performance from sophomore driver Matthew Vega and five goals apiece from junior utility player Jonathan Jarvis and sophomore attacker Bryan Jimenez. Junior goalie Daniel Newell recorded eight saves. 

The Leos are scheduled for a matchup with Cal Lutheran University Wednesday in Thousand Oaks, Calif. Game time is 4 p.m.
