Men's Water Polo ends Troyer Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne men's water polo team dropped their final two games of the annual Gary Troyer Tournament Saturday afternoon.

Fordham 14, La Verne 9

The Leopards fell behind early and couldn't recover against Fordham in their first game of the day

Rey Julian Castillo led La Verne with three goals to go with two steals and an assist. 

Tyler Bennett added two goals and a steal. Joshua Vega, Mike Meza, and Rex Sample each scored once. Sample also dished out two assists.

Ian Hernandez took the start in the cage and grabbed eight saves. Brian Wilder stepped in at goalie in the final period and recorded two saves. 

Fordham was led by Jake Miller-Tolt's five goals.

Johns Hopkins 17, La Verne 13

In their final game of the tournament, the Leopards stayed close with Johns Hopkins, but they couldn't catch the Blue Jays.

Castillo had another big game for La Verne, scoring four goals in the game. Sample added a hat-trick for La Verne in the loss.

Both Jason Russum and Bennett scored twice with Evan Monterroso adding one goal.

Ian Hernandez finished with two steals and five saves.

Next Game: The Leopards return to Claremont on Wednesday, October 11 when they play the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens at 4 p.m.
