Castillo named ACWPC All-American

Bridgeport, Pa. — University of La Verne senior Rey Julian Castillo has been named to Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches Division III Second Team All-American the ACWPC office announced.

This is Castillo's second All-American honors in as many years. Castillo earned All-American honorable mention accolades after his junior season. 

"We're all very excited to see Rey get this well-earned recognition," said Water Polo Head Coach Pat Beemer. "He was a force for us all year and we could not be more proud."

Castillo capped off his career as a Leopard by leading his team in nearly every major statistical category. The Puerto Rico native led his team with 78 goals, 102 points, 32 drawn exclusions, and 33 steals. He also tied with Jason Russum for a team-high 24 assists.

He scored at least three goals in 17 games and notched four or more goals in 10 games. Castillo finished with 49 goals in SCIAC play while earning Second Team All-SCIAC honors. 

A total of 28 student-athletes from 13 institutions earned 2017 ACWPC All-American honors.

The ACWPC All-America teams are selected based on nominations and voting by the head coach of each program by National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division (Division I, II, III).

Since 2005, the mission of the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) is to promote the development and advancement of collegiate water polo.
