REDLANDS, CA — Charles Ortega led the Leopards with four goals and the University of La Verne men's water polo team trailed by just one goal at the end of the first period at Thompson Aquatic Center Wednesday night.
But Redlands surged in the second and third quarters to pull away from the Leopards, eventually winning the SCIAC opener 14-9.

Season Impact
The Leopards drop to 1-8 overall and 0-1 in SCIAC play. Redlands improves to 3-7 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Stat Leaders
Along with Ortega's four goals, Wesley Hovanesian found the back of the net twice. Myles Storms, Rex Sample, and Michael Staine each scored once.
Ian Hernandez had a big game in the cage grabbing 11 saves in the game.
Joey Sabers and Storms each dished an assist.
Next Game
The Leopards play their SCIAC home opener this Saturday when they host the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen at 11 a.m. at Las Flores Park.
