MWP Falls to No. 1 USC, Mercyhurst in Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CA — The University of La Verne men's water polo team dropped a pair of games to top competition at the Cal Baptist Lancers Invitational on Friday.

Mercyhurst 13, La Verne 8

The Leopards rallied in the second half to get to within a point of Mercyhurst at the break, but the Lakers scored six goals in the third quarter to grab the win.

Domenic D'Andrea had a big game offensively, finishing the game with a hat-trick. Myles Storms and Michael Staine both netted a pair of goals.

Joey Sabers finished with a goal and an assist. Jason Russum, Ian Hernandez, and D'Andrea each added an assist.

Hernandez finished with five saves and four steals.

No. 1 USC 28, La Verne 4

The Leopards faced the top team in the nation for the second time this season. Staine led the Leopards with two goals.

Charles Ortega and Jason Soo Hoo both scored once. Russum finished the game with an assist.

Hernandez grabbed two saves and Mason Fox finished with two.

Season Impact

La Verne falls to 2-11 overall.

Next Game

The Leopards return to SCIAC action tomorrow when they host the Caltech Beavers at 11 a.m.
