LA VERNE, CA — Charles Ortega scored to get the University of La Verne water polo team to within a goal of Occidental's lead with 42 seconds left to play.
But the Leopards couldn't convert in the final seconds dropping their season finale to the Tigers 11-10.
The Leopards end the season 8-21 overall and 3-11 in SCIAC play.
Ortega had a great game for the Leopards, scoring five times in the match. Michael Staine scored twice.
Wesley Hovanesian led La Verne with three assists. Jason Russum added two assists of his own. Jason Soo Hoo, Myles Storms, and Joey Sabers each found the back of the net once. Sabers dished out a pair of assists.
Ian Hernandez finished the game with five saves.

The Leopards honored seniors Ian Hernandez, Jason Russum, and Domenic D'Andrea in a brief pregame ceremony.
