RIVERSIDE, CA — Matthew Salas led the Leopards with the third-fastest 8K time in program history and the University of La Verne men's cross country team battled the heat at the UC Riverside Invitational.

The Leopards competed in a field of teams across all divisions.

Salas broke the 26 minute mark in the 8K for the first time in his career, leading the Leopards with a time of 25:46.8. The junior is coming off a win at the Redlands Invitational two weeks ago.

Alex Medina followed next for the Leopards. Medina, just a freshman, crossed the finish line with a time of 27:38.3.

From the Coach

"The hot and dry conditions made for some challenges but overall we had solid races over 8k and 5k," said La Verne Cross Country Head Coach Justin Wood. "I'm expecting to see some big jumps in performance next month as we are still building fitness."

Joel Reyes followed next clocking in at 28:27.3. Kyle Regret finished at 29:17.6 with Aidan Garcia following close behind at 29:30.0.

Eric Lopez-Elwell (30:37.3) and Luke Garcia (31:50.0) capped off the race for La Verne.

Next Race

The Leopards head east again next Saturday to race in the Cal State San Bernardino Coyote Challenge.
