Softball Lands Four on All-SCIAC Teams

PASADENA, Calif. — Four members of the University of La Verne softball team were named to the softball All-SCIAC teams, the conference office announced on Friday.

Senior Raven Freret was named to the First Team for the third year in a row. She probably would have earned the honors her freshman year as well, but was named the Freshman of the Year in 2011 and was not eligible for selection to an all-conference squad. This season, Freret hit a staggering .511 in conference play and led the conference in hits (47) and doubles (11). She was top-three in runs batted in (28, 3^rd), on base percentage (.545, 3^rd) and slugging percentage (.685, 3^rd). The first baseman has had one of the most decorated careers of any La Verne softball player in the school's history, leading the team in batting average and RBI in each of her four years.

Freshman Hayley Jaquess, freshman Alexis Schiff and junior Danielle Vela were selected to the Second Team.

Jaquess emerged as one of the very best pitchers in the SCIAC in her rookie year. The Highland, Calif., native went 9-3, posted a 1.63 ERA and the opponents hit just .237 against her in conference play. Schiff made an immediate impact at the plate as a rookie, going .379 with two home runs and 16 RBI. Vela, who was selected to First Team last year, played excellent defense at short and second and went .337 with 23 runs and 10 RBI.

Jaquess, Schiff and Vela all return next year and will play vital roles on the team.
