Softball Trio Named to Academic All-SCIAC Team

PASADENA — Raven Freret, Mackenzie Dutton and Danielle Vela of the University of La Verne softball team were named to the 2014 Academic All-SCIAC Softball Team, the conference office announced on Wednesday.

Freret, a senior communications major, hit .511 in conference play and led the conference in hits (47) and doubles (11). She was top-three in runs batted in (28, 3rd), on base percentage (.545, 3rd) and slugging percentage (.685, 3rd).

Dutton, a sophomore business administration major, hit .307/.416/.373  and knocked in 10 runs while scoring 14.

Vela, a junior art major, hit .337 with 23 runs and 10 RBI while playing stellar defense at shortstop and second base.

Freret and Vela were also selected to All-SCIAC Teams after the conclusion of the season.

To be eligible for selection to the team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average at her institution, must have completed one full calendar year at her current institution and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the case of transfers, graduate students and two-year college graduates, the student athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution.
