Leopards edge Pioneers, 1-0

LA VERNE, Calif. — Katheryn Navarro was stellar on the mound, Shelby Tevis drove in the only run of the game in the sixth inning, and the University of La Verne softball team held on for a 1-0 win against Northwest Conference opponent Lewis and Clark Sunday afternoon.

Season Impact: The Leopards improve their record to 5-3 overall. The Pioneers drop to 1-3 on the season.

Navarro earned her first complete game shutout of the season, improving her record to 2-1. The sophomore finished with seven strikeouts, allowing the Pioneers to reach third base just twice. Navarro also added a hit offensively.

With the game still scoreless in the bottom of the sixth inning, Rachel Ogata led off the inning with a walk. Carly Condon stepped up next, laying down a sacrifice bunt to put Ogata in scoring position. Tevis then hit a shot to center for a double, bringing Ogata in for the 1-0 lead and the difference maker.

Melissa Garcia, Haley Gomez, and Condon each added a hit for La Verne. Catcher Angelica DeAngelo drew a walk.

Pioneers pitcher Megan Anderson went six innings in her start, taking the loss.

Next Game: The Leopards jump back into SCIAC action when they play their first road games of the year next Saturday, February 17 at Chapman.
