Leopards end Texas Trip

SEGUIN, Tex. — Mikayla Mendoza led the Leopards with three hits but the Leopards fell to No. 2 Texas Lutheran in a pair of games to end their Texas stand. 

Game One: Texas Lutheran 9, La Verne 1

Elisa Ponce pitched five innings striking out four. Carly Condon and Katheryn Navarro each finished with a hit.

Rachel Ogata scored the Leopards' lone run of the game in the first inning, reaching home after a sacrifice fly by Navarro.

Kassie Maddox led Texas Lutheran with three hits.

Game Two: Texas Lutheran 8, La Verne 2

Freshman Mikayla Mendoza led the Leopards with three hits in game two of the doubleheader.

Catcher Angelica DeAngelo hit her third home run of the season in the fourth inning when she hit a two-run shot over the left field fence.

Jiana Rojo struck out one in her start. Ashley Caro pitched two and a third innings of relief, striking out two.

Season Impact: The Leopards move to 12-8 overall this season.

Next Game: La Verne returns to SCIAC play on Saturday, March 24 when they travel to Whittier to play the Poets in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
