Softball rallies in sixth to beat Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. — Katheryn Navarro hit a solo shot to lead off the top of the sixth inning and the University of La Verne softball team rallied for four runs to beat the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens Sunday afternoon.

With two outs, two on, and the game tied 1-1 after Navarro left the yard, Shelby Tevis doubled down the left field line to score catcher Angelica DeAngelo and send pinch runner Mikayla Mendoza to third, giving the Leopards their first lead of the game.

Carly Condon stepped up next singling to right center, bringing home Mendoza and Tevis.

Navarro leads the SCIAC with eight home runs this season.

Olivia Campion hit a two-run home run in the bottom of half of the inning to get the Sagehens within one, but the Leopards held on for the one-run win.

DeAngelo finished with two doubles. Michelle Deguzman, Tevis, and Navarro each added two hits.

Elisa Ponce picked up her fifth win of the season, pitching five and two-thirds innings in her start while striking out three.

Jiana Rojo stepped into the circle with two outs in the sixth to pick up the win.

In game one Navarro hit a solo home run in the seventh to get the Leopards to within one run, but that was as close as the Leopards would get dropping the opener 2-1.

Season Impact: La Verne moves to 14-10 overall and 9-3 in SCIAC play.
