Michaels, Borden named SCIAC Athletes of the Week

LA VERNE, Calif. — Nicholas Michaels and Justice Borden have been named SCIAC Athletes of the Week after leading their teams to SCIAC Championships the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.

Michaels had a monster week for La Verne, leading the Leopards to a sweep over Whittier and a SCIAC Championship. The senior accounted for nine RBI in the series with four coming in game one and two. Michaels totaled eight hits, including a home run, two triples, and two doubles. He also crossed the plate four times and finished with a .533 batting average. 

Borden had a huge week for her squad, leading La Verne to four wins on their way to claiming the SCIAC title. In a tight game at home against Whittier, the sophomore hit a go-ahead solo home run in the sixth inning to give her squad a 2-1 win. The next day at Redlands, Borden hit a two-run shot in the ninth to lead La Verne to an extra-innings win. Borden finished the week with three RBI, four hits, and six runs with a .500 average.
