Softball ready for SCIAC Postseason Tournament

LA VERNE, Calif. — The SCIAC Champion University of La Verne softball team opens up the 2018 SCIAC Softball Tournament tomorrow at Campus West with a 2 p.m. game against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The Leopards will host the entirety of the 2018 tournament.

La Verne Preview

The Leopards head into the SCIAC Tournament with four All-SCIAC players the and 2018 Coaching Staff of the Year. La Verne has won 11 of their last 14 contests. 

Leading the Leopards will be the best pitching duo in the SCIAC. First Team All-SCIAC selection and SCIAC Newcomer of the Year Jiana Rojo who sports a conference best 1.19 ERA in SCIAC competition and an overall ERA of 2.14. Two-time All-SCIAC selection Elisa Ponce will also make a key impact for the Leopards in the circle. The senior ranks third in the conference with 73 strikeouts and fifth with an ERA of 2.51. 

At the plate, La Verne is led by power hitter Katheryn Navarro. The first baseman leads the Leopards with 10 home runs this season. Also leading La Verne at the plate is Second Team All-SCIAC selection Carly Condon and senior Angelica DeAngelo. Condon ranked in the top three on her squad in runs (26), hits (36), and RBI (19). DeAngelo leads the Leopards with 27 RBI.

Friday, May 4
Game 1: La Verne v. CMS at 2 p.m. 
Game 2: Whittier v. Pomona-Pitzer at 4 p.m. 

Saturday, May 5 
Game 3: loser game 1 v. loser game 2 - 11 a.m. 
Game 4: winner game 1 v. winner game 2 - 1:30 p.m. 
Game 5: winner game 3 v. loser game 4 - 4 p.m. 

Sunday, May 6
Game 6: Championship Game (winner game 4 v. winner game 5) - 12 p.m.
Game 7: If necessary - 30 minutes following completion of Game 6. 

Spectator Information

The baseball parking lot will be available for spectators. Parking on Wheeler Ave will be permitted on Saturday and Sunday only. Overflow parking will be available at the La Verne shuttle lot (1925 A Street). Shuttles will make frequent pick-ups/drop-offs from the shuttle lot to the Campus West Fields and the University of La Verne main campus at parking lot E.

The softball parking lot is reserved for officials and game day staff ONLY.

Spectators are reminded that no dogs or pets are permitted except guide dogs and properly credentialed service animals.

SCIAC ID – free, children under 12 – free, general admission – $10, senior (55 and older) & veterans – $5
