LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne softball team dropped the opening game of the 2018 SCIAC Postseason Tournament 2-0.

The Leopards will play tomorrow at 11 a.m. against Whittier College. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps will play Pomona-Pitzer at 1:30 p.m. Both games will be played at Campus West.

La Verne's best chance to score came in the fourth. With two outs, Katheryn Navarro got on with an infield single and Justice Borden stepped up next with a double to get both players in scoring position. But a ground out ended the Leopards' chances.

The Athenas took the lead in the fifth, capitalizing off back-to-back hits and a walk to load the bases. Molly Spaniac picked up a walk next to put the Athenas up 1-0. Chole Amarilla then reached on a fielder's choice that sent Rachel Perley across the plate. 

Jiana Rojo took the loss for La Verne. Anna Gurr picked put the win for the Athenas.
