Softball beats Oxy 10-0

LOS ANGELES — The Leopards poured on runs late and the University of La Verne softball team salvaged a split at Bell Field, beating the Occidental College Tigers in the second game of its doubleheader 10-0.

Game Two: La Verne 10, Occidental 0

The first three Leopard batters reached base in the top of the third and Melissa Garcia capitalized, hitting a single to right field that brought home Gabriella Underwood and Justice Borden to extend La Verne's lead to 7-0.

Shelby Tevis, Carly Condon, and Rachel Ogata each added an RBI in the inning. Tevis made her way to the plate when she scored on a passed ball.

Condon had a great offensive game for the Leopards. The senior doubled twice, reached base three times, and scored three times.

Ogata added her second triple of the year in the sixth inning when she hit a shot to center the plated Condon. Ogata finished with two RBI.

Underwood, Borden, and Ashley Soto each added two hits. Jiana Rojo went the distance, recording her fifth win of the, allowing just three hits with three strikeouts.

Madison Romero took the loss for La Verne.

Game One: Occidental 6, La Verne 2

The Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead and the Leopards couldn't recover in game one.

Tevis and Garcia each went 2-2. Condon added an RBI in the second.

Cassie Carter led Occidental with two RBI and Delaney Russel picked up the win.

Season Impact

The Leopards move to 9-9 overall and 5-5 in the SCIAC. La Verne is currently tied for third place in the SCIAC. Occidental moves to 2-17 overall and 2-8 in conference play.

Next Game

La Verne takes a break from SCIAC action when they hose SUNY Cortland on Tuesday in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
