REDLANDS, CA — The University of La Verne softball team scored runs in each of the final three innings to score a 5-4 win over the Redlands Bulldogs on Saturday.
The Leopards dropped a close 3-2 game in Saturday's opener.
Season Impact
The win was important for the Leopards to stay in contention for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament. The Leopards currently sit in fourth place at 9-9 in the SCIAC and 13-17 overall.
Redlands is currently in fifth place in the SCIAC at 8-10 in conference place and 14-16 overall.
Game Two: La Verne 5, Redlands 4
Gabriella Underwood finished game two with a pair of RBI and two hits including a homer. Kayla Giannatasio finished 3-3 at the plate with two RBI.
Katheryn Navarro picked up the win in the circle, pitching a complete game with four strikeouts.
Rachel Ogata and Sienna Kendricks both added a pair of hits.
Down 4-2 in the fifth, Underwood got the Leopards' offense going with a solo home run. Underwood leads the Leopards with five home runs.
Giannatasio tied the game the following inning with an RBI double to center that scored Justice Borden.
The Leopards brought in the winning run in the seventh when Ogata scored off a Bulldogs' error.
Game One: Redlands 3, La Verne 2
The Leopards scored twice in the first inning but couldn't generate any more offense falling in game two.
Underwood, Navarro, Borden, Bailey Grani, and Carly Condon each recorded a hit.
Jiana Rojo was solid in her start, pitching six and a third innings with five strikeouts.
Next Game
The Leopards next host the Occidental College Tigers on Friday in a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
