Softball splits at Chapman

ORANGE, CA — The University of La Verne softball team left Orange County with a win, splitting its games with the host Chapman Panthers.

Game Two: La Verne 6, Chapman 4

The Leopards scored early and held off a seventh-inning push by the Panthers pick up the win in game two.

Justice Borden led La Verne with two hits and two RBI. Tauney Mack added two RBI of her own.

Jiana Rojo picked up the complete game win, striking out two in the outing.

La Verne did their damage in the first, scoring three runs in the opening inning off a single by Borden that scored Sienna Kendricks and Gabriella Underwood. Mack followed it up with an RBI single up the middle that scored Kayla Giannatasio.

The Leopards added two more runs in the third off an RBI single by Shelby Tevis and a Chapman error to go up 5-1.

Chapman threatened the Leopards' lead late, scoring three runs in the final inning, but couldn't even the game.

Game One: Chapman 2, La Verne 1

The Leopards couldn't generate enough offense in the opener, dropping game one.

Gabriella Underwood finished with a double and an RBI.

Katheryn Navarro pitched well but took the loss. The junior struck out six and allowed just one earned run.

Next Game

The Leopards will close out the 2019 season tomorrow in a doubleheader at home against Pomona-Pitzer. La Verne will celebrate seniors Carly Condon, Rachel Ogata, Melissa Garcia, and Sienna Kendricks in a brief pregame ceremony.
