LA VERNE, CA — Jiana Rojo has been tabbed SCIAC Softball Pitcher of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Monday.
Rojo earned a pair of wins over the weekend to keep the La Verne softball squad undefeated. The junior went the distance and earned the complete-game win in the first match-up against Pacific Lutheran, striking out seven batters along the way in the 4-2 victory.
Rojo stepped back into the circle and pitched the last one and two-thirds innings in the final game to lead the Leopards to a 5-4 win.
This is the second time this season Rojo has been tabbed SCIAC Pitcher of the Week. The Newark, CA native picked up the award after striking out eight batters in the Leopards' 8-0 season-opening win over St. Katherine.
This is the fifth time a member of the La Verne softball team has picked up SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors this season. Rachel Rubio has earned pitching accolades and both Francheska Juarez and Katheryn Navarro have picked up hitting honors.
The Leopards are off to a hot start this season and are currently undefeated at 6-0.
Next Game
The Leopards have their biggest test of the season on Sunday, February 23 when they host No. 11 Linfield in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
