Redlands, California – The University of La Verne softball team traveled to the University of Redlands for a doubleheader SCIAC matchup, as both teams were battling to stay atop the conference standings. The Leopards again entered today's game with a limited roster and sought to battle to maintain their place in the conference and regional standings. La Verne was looking to bounce back from their opening loss at home to Redlands in the three-game series.

The first game of the doubleheader would see the Leopards control the game from the mound, as they only gave up three runs through the first five innings of play. Jocelyn Robertson hit a home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Leopards on the board but La Verne would fall to Redlands by a final score of 6-1. Katelyn Shephard had two strikeouts in the game for the Leopards and Haylee Hsieh led the Leopards with two hits in the game.

The Leopards started the second game of the day aiming to steal a victory on the road. Jocelyn Robertson opened the second inning of play with a home run, which tied the game at one apiece.
Hailee Hsieh then doubled to center field, leading to a score by Cailin Bliss. The Leopards scored three runs in the third inning of play, giving them a 4-1 lead over the Bulldogs. Through seven innings of play, the Leopards only allowed two more runs, resulting in a tied game that would continue through nine innings. Showing tremendous heart on the road, the Leopards battled until the end but lost a heartbreaker to Redlands University by a final score of 5-4.

The Leopards return to action on Friday, April 22nd at Cal Lutheran. The game starts at 3:00 pm.
