Leopards Outlast Loggers In Non-Conference Action
The University of La Verne women’s tennis team won a 5-4 decision over the visiting University of Puget Sound Saturday afternoon at neighboring Bonita High School.
ULV (4-9) earned a quick 2-1 lead after winning two-of-three doubles contests. Both ULV duos at No. 1 and 2 claimed their respective matches by identical 8-5 scores, while Puget Sound captured a point at No. 3.
With a one-point advantage, the Leopards knew they needed three singles victories for the team triumph. They accomplished the feat as a result of claiming singles at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions. Junior Nicole Harden proved dominant after defeating Logger Katie Schultz by scores of 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1.
Additionally, senior Lacey Wiles topped Sam Taylor 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and freshman Rebecca Rodriguez won contest No. 3 over Alyssa Wolf with 6-3, 6-4 scores. Puget Sound managed to win singles No. 4, 5 and 6.
La Verne concludes their five-match homestand on Monday in facing Whitworth in non-conference action at the Claremont Tennis Club at 2 p.m.
