Leopards Record Season Best Times Against Chapman in SCIAC Action

The University of La Verne swim and dive squad jumped back in to the pool against the Panthers of Chapman University Saturday afternoon in Orange.  The Leopard men would enjoy a 195-36 victory of the Panthers, while the Leo women would suffer a 212-95 setback.  Saturday's competition saw several Leopards yielding individual success with 16 season best times and a new varsity record captured by Cody Yeo.

La Verne diver Jacob Tittl had an outstanding day capturing first place in both the 1 meter (187.05) and 3 meter (144.80) diving events.  Yeo notched victories in the 1000-yard freestyle (9:56.11), 500-yard freestyle (4:47.45), and 200-yard IM (2:03.38).  Madeline Lovrensky and Jarrett Peterson teamed up for a sweep of the men's and women's 200-yard freestyle event with times of 2:00.20 and 1:51.19, respectively.  Later in the day, Peterson once again put put himself on the radar with his impressive individual performance in the 100-yard freestyle (51.13) and along with teammates Coleman Goode, Amir Rashed, and Marc Okimura as a member of the victorious Leopard 200-yard freestyle relay team (1:32.26)

Lovrensky continues to solidify herself as a perennial SCIAC contender as she went on to secure victories in the 50-yard (25.17) and 500-yard (5:23.79) freestyle events.  Nicole Carlton joined Yeo with her own victory in the 1000-yard free with a time of 11:20.76.

Okimura once again stood atop his competitors with times of 22.81 and 54.56 in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.  Sammi Shiomoto captured wins in both the 100 and 200-yard butterfly races (1:02.14;2:15.52).  Homero Aguilar and Felipe Avendano Villa captured the top two spots in the 100 yard backstroke (59.64;59.74) en route to the Leopard men's victory.

 "We raced better than we have all season." said Leopard head coach Pat Skehan.  "Today's performances set us up for the upcoming SCIAC races".

The La Verne swim and dive squad will compete in the SCIAC Diving prelims Feb. 9 at 10 am  and will prepare for the upcoming SCIAC Championships which begin Feb. 17 in La Mirada.
