COMMERCE – The University of La Verne swimming and diving teams kept rolling on Day Two of the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center.
The Leopards broke six more school records and three swimmers made the NCAA "B" (provisional) cuts.
The highlight of Day Two for La Verne was Maddie Lovrensky in the 100-yard backstroke. The junior claimed her third straight SCIAC title in the event with a time of 56.00, making the "B" cut. The time is the ninth fastest in Division III this season.
Marc Okimura and Mike Sanchez went 5-6 in the 100 breaststroke with times of 57.12 and 57.51, respectively. Both marks are good enough to make the "B" cut.
The men's 200 medley relay team of Coleman Goode, Okimura, Devon Photias and Viken Huening made the podium with a third place finish at 1:35.06, a school record.
The women's 200 medley relay team also broke the varsity record and was three-tenths of a second off the "B" cut. Lovrensky, Jackie Rojas, Sammy Shiomoto and Melanie Consiglio combined to go 1:46.96 to take third place.
Rojas just missed the podium and the "B" cut in the 100 breast, but her time of 1:06.44 was good enough to top the previous La Verne record, which she herself set last year
In the women's 400 individual medley, freshman Krislyn Cha touched the wall in school-record 4:54.97.
After setting the school record in the 200 IM on Friday, Sammy Shiomoto set another in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.07.
The men's 800 free relay also set a record, posting a 7:04.77.
Freshman Daniel Carpenter, who was a part of the 800 relay team, took the podium in the 200 free with a mark of 1:42.62.
Divers Scott MacKay and Jacob Tittl just missed out on the 1-meter podium finishing 4-5. MacKay scored a 416.95 and Tittl registered a 410.85. Both had already punched tickets to the NCAA Regionals in the Friday prelims.
"It's been a solid team effort so far," head coach Pat Skehan said. "Everyone's scoring points and we are sitting comfortably in the standings."
