Lovrensky goes out in style, breaks another record

SHENANDOAH, Texas — La Verne swimmer Maddie Lovrensky won the consolation final of the women's 200 yard backstroke in a SCIAC record time of 1:59.68 to cap off her illustrious career at the 2015 NCAA Division III National Championships.

Lovrensky went into the evening seeded 15th after turning in a time of 2:02.91 in the morning prelims but came back with a vengeance in the final. Lovrensky went out ahead of the back almost immediately and maintained a body length and a half-lead the entire race. And the result was more impressive given that she was competing in lane one.

Her time was also fast enough to put her fifth overall behind four swimmers who competed in the championship final.

The swim gave Lovrensky her second All-America nod of this year's championships.

On Friday, Lovrensky placed second in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing the race in 54.73 and .16 seconds behind the winner. She also competed in the 50 freestyle on Wednesday for an optional swim and missed out on making the evening final by one spot.

Lovrensky leaves La Verne with five total All-American honors, nine individual SCIAC Championships and eight school records. She was also named the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Female Athlete of the Year twice.
