NORFOLK, Va. — The University of La Verne men's and women's swimming and diving teams were recognized as College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams. This is the fourth year in a row both the men and the women were recognized for their work in the classroom.
The Team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a grade point average of 3.0 or higher in the fall semester or quarter.
The La Verne women achieved a GPA of 3.38 and the men posted a 3.31, both of which are improvements from last year.
"Our coaches understand that the essence of intercollegiate athletics is the experience each student-athlete receives, and an emphasis on academics reflects what coaches feel is most important," CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield said.
In total, a record 638 swimming and diving teams representing 294 colleges and universities earned the honors.
