Swimming and Diving kicks off SCIAC Championships

COMMERCE, Calif. — The 2017 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championshps got underway with a pair of relay events and women's 1-meter diving on Wednesday at Brenda Villa Aquatic Center.

In the first swimming final of the championships, the women's 200 yard medley relay team of Mary Hanna, Miranda Chavez, Kayla Yip and Rachel Miyoga posted a time of 1:50.96 to finish seventh overall.

The men's squad of CJ Woodward, Harry Bennett, Joey Sabers and Tim Polman finished eighth in the men's 200 medley relay with a time of 1:35.59.

Amber DeLoye finished 17th overall in the 1-meter diving with a total score of 296.30 and Erin Lobato placed 24th (232.15).

The women's 800 freestyle relay team of Rachel Fox, Krislyn Cha, Ashley MacAskill and Miranda Chavez touched eighth at 8:11.24.

Daniel Carpenter, Brandon Pon, Polman and Harry Bennett combined to go 7:01.37 in the men's 800 freestyle relay and finished sixth.

After one day of action, both the women and the men sit in eight place with 68 and 66 points, respectively.

The Leopards are back in action tomorrow starting with morning preliminaries at 9 a.m.
