Tim Polman named CSCAA Scholar All-American

NORFOLK, Va. — Timothy Polman of the University of La Verne men's swimming and diving team was selected to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Team on Wednesday.

Polman, a senior, garnered Honorable Mention status after posting a 3.85 GPA this semester and making NCAA "B" time standards in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events.

The CSCAA has selected a record 997 swimmers and divers this year and an additional 954 were recognized as Honorable Mention selections.

Student-athletes were designated based on their performance in the classroom and the pool.

To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.

The selections were drawn from 273 colleges and universities across all divisions. "Between the athletic and academic components required to receive the award, these really are some of the best of the best," CSCAA Executive Director Joel Shinofield said. "It really shows that excellence in the classroom and the pool can be achieved at any program – not just pockets here or there."

Polman joined the Leopards as a junior last year and leaves La Verne as the best men's sprinter in program history. Polman owns La Verne records in the 50-, 100- and 200-yard freestyle along with records in the 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays.
