Pon, MacAskill, Knoblach win at Oxy

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Brandon Pon and Ashley MacAskill each won the 1000 freestyle, but the University of La Verne men's and women's swim and dive teams fell on the road to the Occidental College Tigers.

Men's Score: Occidental 159, La Verne 85

Women's Score: Occidental 193, La Verne 51

Pon won with a time of 10:11.41 to open the individual events for the men, beating the next best finisher by nearly 11 seconds. MacAskill made a sweep for the Leopards in the event winning with a time of 11:28.55.

The Leopards won both the men's and women's 200 freestyle relays. On the men's side, the combination of CJ Woodward, Lorenzo DeLeon, Kristofer Grigorian, and Bradon Pon won with a time of 1:31.79.

For the women, the team of Rachel Miyoga, Ashley MacAskill, Rachel Fox, and Kayla Yip won at 1:44.91.

Kirsten Knoblach also scored a win, touching first in the 400 individual medley with a time of 5:11.18.

Junior Kayla Yip had two tight second place finishes in the 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly and anchored the women's freestyle relay in a season-best 24.90 which was the fastest women's split in the meet.

Senior Rachel Miyoga and junior Rachel Fox both took home a couple of seconds Miyoga in the 50 freestyle and the 50 backstroke, and Fox in the 200 and 500 free.

History at Tayor Pool: While Captain Mary Hana gave the graduation address the rest of the Leopard swimmers were making history at Occidental. Occidental has the oldest competitive pool in the United States and this was the last official swim meet in the 94 year history of Taylor Pool.
