Pon, Fox set records on final day of SCIACs

COMMERCE, CA — Brandon Pon and Rachel Fox each set a pair of records as the University of La Verne swimming and diving teams closed out the 2019 SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Pon led the Leopards with an All-SCIAC performance in the 1650 yard freestyle. The senior, posted an NCAA B Cut, finished third in the event, and broke his program records in the 1000 freestyle and 1650 freestyle along the way.

Pon put the new La Verne mark for the 1000 free at 9:32.49 and set the new 1650 record at 15:46.13. Pon earns All-SCIAC honors in the 1650 free for the third time in his career.

Fox was also determined to see more La Verne records fall on Sunday. The senior, who already owns the La Verne record in the 500 freestyle, broke the program records in the 1000 freestyle and 1650 freestyle set by Nicole Carlton at the 2013 SCIAC Championships.

She set the new record at 10:54.87 in the 1000 freestyle and at 18:16.69 in the 1650 freestyle. Fox took 10th in the event.

Alondra Camacho took second in the consolation final of the 200 backstroke, coming in with a time of 2:08.98. 

Lorenzo DeLeon took sixth in the consolation final of the 200 yard backstroke clocking in at 1:55.98.

Kayla Yip added a third place finish with a time of 2:14.82 in the 200 yard butterfly consolation final.
