Swim and Dive Opens Home Comeptition

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne swim and dive teams opened home competition on Saturday against the Whittier College Poets.

Senior Trevor Ichiki scored a win for the Leopards in the men's 200-yard freestyle posting a first-place time of 1:49.52. Fellow senior Alondra Camacho took second in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 1:04.12. She added another second-place performance in the 200-yard backstroke finishing at 2:20.27.

Sophomore Raymond Thai posted a win in the 200-yard breaststroke with a winning time of 2:18.33. He also came in second with a time of 1:02.54 in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Leopards went 1-2 in the 200-yard butterfly with senior Jonathan Olvera touching first with a time of 2:01.24 and sophomore Asher Kocalis finishing next at 2:05.07. Kocalis added a first-place finish coming in at 5:07.31 in the 500-yard freestyle, and Olvera added a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley at 2:06.92.

Alyssa Ono led the Leopards on the boards scoring 134.60 on the 1-meter and 137.50 on the 3-meter. Ono added to her busy day with a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle touching at 26.66.

Jaden Mendoza posted a time of 53.18 in the men's 100-yard freestyle to take second and added another second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly at 57.30.

Junior Cara Musashi touched second in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:05.89.

Kocalis, Ichiki, Thai, and Olvera added a second-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:26.93.

Next Race

The Leopards next host the annual Collegiate Winter Invite at East Los Angeles Classic. The meet begins this Friday and ends on Sunday.
