Leopards Notch Win Over Caltech On Senior Night

The University of La Verne women's basketball squad concluded its 2011-12 campaign with a 90-36 triumph over the California Institute of Technology on Senior Night at Frantz Athletic Court. 

The Leopards, who came into the contest as the nation's leader in three-point field goals per game, connected on 17 treys on the evening on their way to closing out the season on a three-game win streak to improve to 8-17 overall and 6-8 in conference play.

La Verne built a 51-16 halftime lead on the strength of 12 threes, led by Brittni Tapia who collected three triples on her way to 14 first-half points.

The Leopards forced 33 turnovers while receiving 54 points from their bench.  The Leos also held a 54-38 edge in rebounding.

Caltech senior Teri Juarez closed out her collegiate career with a double-double of 24 points and 14 rebounds, both game highs on the evening.

Tapia led La Verne with 14 points with Megan Musashi adding 12 points.   Kinney and Tyne McClure contributed 9 points each.

Before the game, the Leopards honored seniors Chantal Crouzet and Raphaelle Buenafe as each made their final home appearance.  Crouzet finished the evening with 8 points including a pair of three-pointers while Buenafe tallied 7 points which included a three-point basket.  "It was a great game to send our two tremendous seniors out on a high note," said Leopard head coach Matt Rogers.

La Verne closed the season on a high note, averaging 96.3 points per game along with 18.3 treys during its season-ending three-game win streak.
