Leo women's basketball squad moves to 2-2 over the weekend

LA VERNE- The University of La Verne women's basketball team split a pair of games over the weekend.

The Leopards (2-2) began play on Friday with a 76-45 loss to George Fox University (Ore.) (3-0). After trailing 36-30 at halftime, the Leo offense struggled in the second half, only managing 15 points.

Senior guard Megan Musashi led the La Verne offense with nine points while sophomore guard Shannon Irwin contributed seven. Freshman center Brynn Dahmer and junior guard Tiffany Hicks came off the bench to lead the team with six rebounds and six assists, respectively.

The Leopards were 18-of-68 (26.5 percent) from the floor, but did manage to make 6-of-18 attempts from behind the arc. They also held advantages in assists (14-13) and turnovers (19-23).

The Leos came back strong in Saturday's contest with Colorado College (0-5), taking a 39-30 lead at halftime before pouring in 44 points in the second half to secure an 83-62 victory.

Musashi and sophomore center Emily Myers led the offense with 20 and 14 points respectively after combining for La Verne's first 18 points of the game. Myers also grabbed eight rebounds while Hicks led the team in assists with nine. 

The Leopards connected on 33-of-76 shot attempts and held big advantages in rebounds (46-33), assists (22-11), turnovers (11-21), and points in the paint (32-24). 

The Leos are scheduled to match up with La Sierra University Dec. 3. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. at Franz Athletic Court.
