LA VERNE, Calif. — Noelle Cobb scored 18 points and Brianna Bishop had 14 but the University of La Verne women's basketball team had trouble defending the three-point line in a 66-62 loss to Pacific (Ore.) on Thursday night at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

La Verne drops to 2-4 while Pacific improves to 4-4.

The Leopards shot nearly 50 percent from the field and converted four of 10 three-point attempts but the Boxers pulled down 14 offensive rebounds and went 9-of-21 from beyond the arc to claim the win.

Cobb was in the right place at the right time for most of the night and was on the receiving end of some nice passes that led to easy baskets. She finished the game 9-of-14 shooting and grabbed seven rebounds.

Cobb hit a left elbow jumper to bring the Leopards within 63-62 with just over a minute to go and the Leopards forced a turnover from Nikki Gilbert on the other end for a chance to get ahead. But Cobb just missed the go-ahead shot and the Leopards had to foul the rest of the way.

Each of Pacific's five starters hit double digits in points with Gilbert leading the way with 14 points. Charli Elliot notched a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sarah Curl and Karli McHone each had 13 points.

La Verne had a chance to build a decent lead in the first quarter when the Boxers went 5-for-22 but squandered the opportunity as they couldn't secure the defensive glass and committed 12 turnovers.

Shannon Irwin had nine points, seven rebounds and seven assists. Emily Myers added 10 points and nine rebounds.

The Leopards are back in action on Sunday when they travel to NCAA Division I UC Santa Barbara.
